Girls on Film

Here is a fun and easy craft project for you to try. Ever wonder what to do with all those random pieces of broken jewelry that you just can't bring yourself to throw away? I'm kind of a hoarder when it comes to bits & bobs of the sparkley variety.
I copied these vintage images from a photography book. I suggest going to the office supply store and have them professionally copied.

Dollar store frames and some jewelry glue. E-6000 is my favorite.
Glue your jewelry onto the edge of the picture frame. It's fun to use color found in the photo. This is such a quick and simple project...have fun!!

Shop Local

Here's the story of an Arizona family that believes in the importance of shopping local and they are willing to put their money where their mouth is. This family of four has committed to patronize only local businesses in their hometown of Scottsdale, Az. for a full year! If you'd like to learn more about their experience check out their blog One Local Family.

For 365 days, no Starbucks, no Old Navy, no Taco Bell. I wager that after a year of this, they probably won't want to go back to their old ways of shopping. Think you might be ready to try the same? If you need more convincing, here are a few facts:

For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $73 stays in the local economy, creating jobs, and paying for services like schools, public safety, and libraries. This is compared to $43 that is returned back to the community for every $100 spent at non-local businesses.

Small, local businesses are the largest employers nationally and create 2 out of every 3 new jobs.

Small businesses employ more than 52 percent of the nation’s workers.

Besides making good economic sense, shopping locally is a great way to get to know your neighbors and strengthen your community.

Crimes Against Furniture

In all my years of refurbishing second hand furniture I have never witnessed the proper use of the crackle medium. It seems people just grab a bottle of the stuff, smear it over the surface of a piece willy nilly and call it a day. You can witness the tragic results here. Sigh.

I found this sad dresser at the thrifts and it was crying out for me to rescue it. Stay tuned for the "after" pictures.

Orange You Smart

If you're like me, this time of year always seems to bring that post-holiday, dead-of-winter- kind of blues. I have found the best way to battle the blues is to surround myself with bright colors. Orange has always been one of my favorites. It's such a cheerful and sunny shade and is certain to lift anyone's spirits!

Fleur de Bee

It's time for me to give a shout out to a fellow blogger and fabulous customer. Molly from the blog Fleur de Bee has been one of my favorite customers since we opened our shop five years ago. Her talents are just too numerous to list so you will have to check out her blog and see for yourself. Her sweet husband bought this chandelier as a Christmas gift for her from our shop and just look at how breathtaking it is in her home!
