Fiber & Fire

If you have been following this blog for a while then you are of aware how much I love fabric arts, especially aprons and quilts. So when I spotted the "Fiber & Fire" booth across the lawn at the farmer's market this weekend I made a B-line. Andrea's booth was bursting with a rainbow of cheerful fabrics, aprons, tuffets and an absolutely breathtaking chair made from a quilt.
I asked Andrea if she would be interested in selling some aprons wholesale for my shop. She says for now her project is a one woman operation and she is not quite ready to amp up her production yet. She says she is enjoying her work at its current level. So for now, you can buy Andrea's wonderful fabric creations at the Downtown Farmer's Market or check out her etsy shop at: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5662436&order=&section_id=&page=1

Beautiful work, Andrea. Thanks for sharing.

Farmer's Market

Saturday mornings in Salt Lake City THE place to be is Pioneer Park for the farmer's market. The market runs June through October every Saturday morning from 8 AM to 1 PM. Pioneer Park, in historic downtown is located on 300 South 300 West.

Before cruising the market it's important to have a good breakfast. Our favorite is the taco stand located at the entrance.

If you bring your husband along I suggest feeding him before the shopping begins. He'll last longer that way and you can take your time looking at all the merchandise. Look how happy Poopsie is now that he's had some food.

The market is loaded with fresh produce from local growers, flowers and plants, baked goods, fresh honey, jewelry, apparel, handmade soaps and lotions and a great selection of crafts and artwork.

But the best part of the farmer's market would have to be the people watching! For more info:

Amy & Emily's Home Decor

While strolling through the Downtown Farmer's Market this morning, I happened upon this cute booth brimming with adorable home decor. This is Amy of "Amy & Emily's Home Decor".

Check out her cute merchandise. Amy specializes in custom frames, chalkboards and mirrors. Amy was so friendly and fun to chat with and it turns out she is one of my customers so naturally I was excited to feature her work on this blog.
I especially loved these tea cup pin cushions. What a great idea for recycling tea cups. So feminine!

Great work, Amy. If you'd like to inquire about Amy's merchandise you can reach her at:

New Arrivals

This weekend I was fortunate to find this fabulous set at an estate sale. Is it not absolutely breathtaking? The set is a John Widdicomb, an elegant furniture manufacture that specializes in French Provincial reproductions.
Check out the wonderful detailing, a John Widdicomb trademark.

The sofa measures 7 1/2' in length; enough room for the entire family, even here in Utah! The sofa, priced at $400 is an excellent value for such a fine quality piece.

The chairs sell for $120 each. That's $640 for the entire set! It arrived just in time, too. If you've been in the shop lately, you'll remember the "Couch of Truth". Our enourmous fuschia sofa was purchased on Saturday and will soon be on its way to the Nevada desert for the Burning Man festival. I don't doubt that many more truths will soon be revealed during the Burning Man festivities. The customer who bought it has promised a photo of all the action. Can't wait.

Slow Down

Summer's officially ended and the kids are back in school. It's a hectic time of year for parents and students and it's easy to get caught up in the mad rush. So remember what's really important and put down the cel phone and drive carefully.

Caitlin's Back!

After spending the past year in Portland at college, Caitlin has returned to Salt Lake City and to Second Hand Chic. Our long time customers will remember Caitlin from our old location on 33rd South. As you can see from these photos, Bumbee remembers Caitlin, too.
In fact, Bumbee was so excited when she saw Caitlin, she piddled all over herself! It's called "excitable urine", folks and it's known to happen with small dogs and some humans.
Portland's loss will surely be Second Hand Chic's gain. Caitlin will be attending school at the U this fall and will be working Mondays and Saturdays at the shop so be sure to come in and say, "Welcome Back" to Caitlin.
