Apparently, Some People Don't Like to go to the Thrift Store...

So this afternoon I'm making my usual rounds at the thrifts. As I'm driving around the parking lot of the Sugar House DI and getting ready to pull into a spot when a woman enters the parking lot going in the wrong direction. As I'm backing up to get into my spot she gets behind me and stops so I am unable to complete my parking manuever. I'm thinking, maybe she does not realize she is going in the wrong direction so I roll down my window and say, "Excuse me, but you are going in the wrong direction..." That was a mistake. The next thing to come out of her mouth was a long and very "colorful" insult of my driving skills. "I guess I'm not going to get her to back up", I'm thinking. Apparently she is just a very angry person so I decided to just drive on and do my thrifting at a later time.
I don't get it. I always look forward to my shopping trips at the thrifts. I anxiously visualize what treasures might be in store for me. There is always a little spring in my step as I approach the entrance...what fabulous items await beyond those doors? I suppose angry, yelling parking lot woman is not one of those individuals.

  1. Wow Kelly - you did the right thing to just walk away - you never know what kind of crazy stuff people are capable of these days! HOpe you got your thrifting fix later.

  2. Kelly - Yesterday there must have been something bad in the air at the DI. As I was getting out of my car, I heard someone sitting on their horn. I turned to look in the direction and two men had gotten out of their vehicles and were as close to getting into a fist fight as I've seen two men since I was living in Rome! I guess one guy was backing out of a parking space and didn't see the other guy coming up behind him---therefore the horn, but the backing out guy must have REALLY been offended by the horn. Geeeez. Nobody needs that kind of stress. :o(

  3. What a bummer that that crabby lady had to go and ruin your excitement for that day's thrifting! Sorry!! Next time you'll find something really good...I just know it :)

  4. Ya know what, I bet that women couldn't hear what you were telling her so she responded thinking you were yealing at her. How does the saying go: "Act, don't reAct". Shake it off, it's not worth it, nothing can stop the enjoyment you get from thrifting. Ya wanna know how I know?

Becuse you can see all the passion, love, and fun that you have, in the way that your shop looks. It's amazing, I wish I knew where it is, I'd come visit.

    Your top's!

  5. I never know what I am going to find or who I will see at my local Goodwill store. It is a happy place. I will tell my husband that I am just doing a quick peek at the store, only do be gone an hour. Upon my return, he will look at me as I explain, well hon I ran into Tiff, and then Cindy, and then that nice lady with the 5 kids that always comes to my yardsales each summer. He just rolls his eyes. Obviously the lady was not having a good day. She should have stayed home.

  6. Kelly, you took the higher road, dear. Her problems (thankfully) are not your problems. I can't imagine the kind of sad life she lives if that pathetic response is typical of how she lives her days! Kind-hearted, good-sported Kelly comes out on top every time by comparison. Won't it be wonderful to have the new DI built down at the old Circuit City building on 700 East? I drove in there the other day, and there is oodles of parking and lots of space so that everyone can have a good place to park without putting their emotional and physical lives at risk!!!I see the possibility of Sugar House becoming the Second Hand Mecca of the City!

  7. I'm so happy you remembered to tell yourself, "Calm Body." Very well done.

PS that crazy lady in the other car was me. I'm sorry.
