The Art of Brian Swanson

Brian Swanson has a way with junk. Using found objects, Brian scuplts them into works of art. Rusted steel, woven wire, machine parts, auto gears, and even an occasional stove leg have all found their way into Brian's creations. The result is usually quirky, at times functional but always imaginative.

We discovered Brian's gallery while we were in Torrey last weekend. What struck me about hs work is it's accessability. There is an element of humor and whimsy in the "faces" he designs yet his furniture creations are elegant and stylish. His work certainly has wide appeal My favorite peice is this chair: it evokes a mid-century post-industrial sensibility while retaining an organic feeling.

If Brian's work has a familiar look it may be because you've seen it in some public places or maybe even sat in one of his seating designs. Brian has commissioned much of his work through out the West in places like the SeaTac Airport, Pike's Market in Seatle and Denver's Downtown Light Rail Station to name a few.
