Santa Rescue Squad

So I'm making my daily rounds at the DI (Deseret Industries Thrift Store) and I spot this special little guy in a garbage can! The employees at the DI regularly toss out merchandise that had been on the shelf too long. Can you imagine this sweet little Santa ending up in the dumpster? Horrors!!!

Sure, he's a little ragged around the edges but I think that adds to his charm. And check out his boots...still so white and shiny after all these years.

Rest assured, folks. He now is proudly displayed in my shop, waiting for some kind person to snatch him up and give him a good home. The very thought warms my heart.

If you'd like to participate in Vintage Christmas Monday or just check out all the glorious posts by bloggers who are truly in the spirit of vintage Christmas decor, check out this link to Joan's blog: Anything Goes Here.

  3. Oh My Gosh Kelly...
You are a dumpster diver too? I am so thrilled. Thank goodness you are, or poor Santa would not have been rescued. He is so precious. What is not to love? I think sometimes they mark them up so high that nobody will buy them. Then they throw it out?

My DH and I are both short. I am 5ft2 and he is about 5ft5. He jumped in the dumpster to get something out, and then he couldn't get back out. I didn't think we were ever going to get him out of there. We kept laughing and laughing. Ofcourse making it harder. We have so much fun together. I am so thrilled that there are a few more dumpster divers out there besides us.

Have a beautiful day sweetie. Country hugs...Sherry

  5. Thank goodness Santa was saved. You think that they would have kept him at least till Christmas. You are just like Rudolph saving all the misfit toys and finding a new home for them to be loved. I would have loved that Santa.

  6. Oh Kelly, thank goodness you got there in time to rescue him! Isn't that just like the D.I.... throwing out the treasures and selling most of the cheap junk! I swear, every time I go there, their "collectibles" are nothing at all, and the real treasures are out on the shelves covered in dirt... (I always take my hand sanitizer with me!) I am sooo tempted to ask you to hold him for me as well, but I know someone will snatch him right up... maybe even someone with a little girl who falls in love with him! Love to you... xoxo Julie Marie

  14. "His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
    And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself."
Your sweet little Santa is the personification of the Santa in Clement Clarke Moore's "Twas the Night Before Christmas"! You have done us all a favor by saving Santa and sharing his story. Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night!

  15. Mrs. de Azevedo, I am enjoying your flair for poetry, and the aptness that this particular poem holds for the tiny tossed aside santa.

It truly will be a Good Night for whomever comes to the 2nd Hand Chic and snatches him up for their very own special Christmas time.

  16. Why, thank you very much, Mrs. Ballard. My granddaughter Clara knows that entire poem by heart! It is one of my forever favorites. The tiny-tossed-aside-Santa will live forever in our hearts, won't he?
