Winter Wonderland

Growing up in Southern California, I was always jealous of the kids who lived in cold climates because they got to play in the snow at Christmas time. Palm trees and sandy beaches just don't seem to get a person into the Christmas spirit. For this week's Christmas Vintage Monday, I've included some vintage winter photos and artwork I have in my shop. Be sure to check out the other bloggers participating by clicking on the VCM button on my sidebar.

Here's a rare postcard of a winter scene of the Mormon Temple here in Salt Lake City. Sorry though, this one's not for sale.

Isn't this a charming vintage painting? That little cabin looks so cozy and snug off in the distance. Can't you just picture the people inside all gathered around the fire sipping wassail and singing carols?

Here are some cute vintage Girl Scout Calenders. Now this was a busy family...so many important dates jotted down.

Happy families ice skating together. We did lots of roller skating in Southern California in the 1970's. The ice skating always seemed more romantic to me.

Here is an old Union Pacific Railroad promotional print of a pretty winter scene.

This is a painting Poopsie and I picked up at an estate sale a while back. Poopsie talked me into keeping it. It reminds him of his childhood winter days growing up here in Salt Lake City. Poopsie loves winter, I suppose it's his Danish heritage. One of these days, I'll convince him we should retire closer to the beach!

And finally those cheeky little chipmunks, Chip and Dale. They are helping Donald Duck find the perfect tree to chop down for Christmas. Again, this is always something I wanted to do as a kid at Christmas. I remember, the first time I actually got to do this. My daughter Emily was a year old and we were living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We put Emily in the backpack and headed for the back woods with our ax to locate the perfect tree. Three hours later, after wandering through waste deep snow, freezing to death and still not finding an acceptable tree I found myself wondering why I always dreamed of doing this.

I guess the moral of the story is that Christmas is a feeling in your heart and has nothing to do with the weather outside your window. Thanks again to Joan at Anything Goes Here for hosting Vintage Christmas Mondays.

Love, Kelly

  3. All of the pictures are so wonderful, but I especially love that painting of the cabin in the snowy woods, and that calendar from 1961! That's the year I was born, so I suppose that makes me vintage too! That painting of the boy in the red coat is fantastic too!
    Merry Christmas and Happy VCM!

  8. You know that I have such a soft spot for the old prints and postcards of winter wonderlands in Utah as well as those that depict other geographical regions of the snowy and sometimes tempestuous world. Thank you for the wonderful pictures of such landscapes on this blog. BTW, in case you forgot, my birthday is coming up some time this year and an antique framed landscape would look so nice hanging on a moss green wall in my entry, don't you think?
